Longline-/Slackline-World Record and World Record Attempts

254m... the quarter kilometer (on Polyester) is cracked!
On 11.8.2010, Lukas Irmler and Michi Aschaber were able to break the magical 250m border.
A huge, heartfelt congratulations to the both of them.
Many tries and almost an entire year has gone by since the first time Lukas Irmler attempted the quarter kilometer. Together with Reinhard Kleindl and us in Bruchmühlbach on 15.10.2009. With an adventurous setup and a very daring tension of 2/3 of the breaking strength of the webbing, Lukas and Michi were finally able to set a new polyester world record with the Tools-Webbing Strong-II.
We would like to make note of a caution, however, of tensioning slacklines (even new webbings) over 50% of the breaking strength. Many of the world's leading and most experienced slackliners agree: "Especially with extreme setups, the slackline MUST be the weakest part of the setup and NONE of the equipment may exceed 50% of its breaking strength".
World record or not, safety is the first concern!!! Please remain careful and beware of safety regulations at all times when setting up up your lines.

231m... new World Record (on Polyester)!
On 5.6.2010, Reinhard Kleindl organized a gathering, "Days of Distance" in Graz. Lukas Irmler was able to set a new world record, outdoing the 217m record set by Mich Kemeter in August 2009.
A huge congratulations from all of us.

It should be mentioned, that since this time, and between the records set on 'standard' slacklines (polyester), the crew from Landcruising set up and walked a 300m (with 26kN tension) super longline. These 'high tech' lines are markedly different from the 'traditional' polyester and nylon lines, they are made from a relatively unknown material, Dyneema, Spectra or Aramid (Landcruising is releasing no details at this point). This is something different from Vectran, it appears to be a bit stronger, with about the same weight per meter, and thus it can be tensioned much harder and is much lighter than polyester and thus easier to walk (Despite that, we would like to make known our respect for the Landcruising team). These 'high tech' webbings cost 3-4 times as much as the polyester webbings and thus will not be used by regular slackliners, saved for the financially advantaged or special projects.

That makes Lukas' achievement all the more extraordinary, a 231m long, 72g/m heavy polyester slackline with only 21kN tension! We would like to give a huge respect and congratulations to Lukas, that was really a world-class achievement!

So it is possible! After the countless number of tries worldwide to break the 250 barrier, it sounded as though everyone had given up; it seemed impossible to walk a 250m 'normal' slackline. Now we see things differently, the longliners now know that 250m on polyester is definitely possible! And all of a sudden they say: 'probably a lot longer!" We are excited!
